Short bio
She is a Full Professor at the Institute of Mathematics, Statistics and Scientific Computing (IMECC) of the University of Campinas (Unicamp). She currently serves as President of the Brazilian Mathematical Society (2023–2027) and President of the Mathematical Union of Latin America and the Caribbean (UMALCA, 2025–2029). In 2023, she was the South, Central, and Caribbean America regional winner of the “Science, She Says!” Award, granted by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. In the same year, she was awarded the title of Knight of the Order of the Star of Italy by the Italian Government and received the Outstanding Researcher Award from FAPDF (Federal District Research Support Foundation, Brazil). In 2024, she received an Honorary Mention of the USP Alumni Award and became a member of both the Scientific Committee and the Board of Directors of the Institute of the Mathematical Sciences of the Americas (IMSA), University of Miami. That same year, she also joined the Springer Nature Latin American Research Advisory Council. She currently serves on the Gender and Diversity Advisory Board of TWAS (The World Academy of Sciences) and was a member of the Executive Committee of the TWAS Young Affiliate Network (2022–2024). In 2019, she was awarded an Alexander von Humboldt/CAPES Fellowship for Experienced Researchers to conduct research at Justus Liebig University Giessen, Germany. In that same year, she was the winner in the Mathematics category of the For Women in Science Award, granted by L’Oréal–UNESCO–ABC. In 2018, she was elected an Affiliate Member of TWAS, an Affiliate Member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences (ABC), and was selected as an Oberwolfach Leibniz Fellow by the Mathematisches Forschungsinstitut Oberwolfach, Germany. Since 2021, she has served as an Ambassador of the IMU Committee for Women in Mathematics. In 2012, she received the Bernd Aulbach Prize for Students, awarded by the International Society of Difference Equations, in Novacella, Italy. She previously held faculty positions at the Department of Computing and Mathematics, University of São Paulo (Ribeirão Preto campus, 2013–2015) and at the Department of Mathematics, University of Brasília (2015–2025). Her research area is Mathematical Analysis, with a particular emphasis on functional differential equations and applications to mathematical biology.
